We interview Clever CEO, Manuel Climent. Pay attention!
What made you start your own business?
My father. Although he started his business very late and he didn’t have very good luck, he instilled in me the entrepreneurial spirit. I helped him with everything I could, but he died soon and I was left wanting to see some of his projects done.
How do you see the current scenario for entrepreneurs?
Entrepreneurship today is finally well seen. Spain is a country of officials. Today in Spain, more employees in the public sector than in the private sector. However, the crisis has pushed many people to launch their own businesses and this has left more of an entrepreneurial culture everywhere. So, I suppose that the scenario is better today than it was a few years ago, but we still have a long way to go until the business ecosystem will be at the level of maturity of the Anglo-Saxon countries.
Where did Clever Ads come from?
My friend Fernando and I were walking in Barcelona and Fernando told me that he was optimizing Google accounts. He explained that a lot of the work was very mechanical and we thought we could make software that would automate and optimize all the processes, so that any company that wanted to do Google Ads could benefit from it.
What exactly does Clever Ads do?
It is a software company with the vision of adding value to its customers through automation in the management processes of their digital marketing campaigns.
What is it like to lead a company that has grown so much in such a short time?
The company is the people who are inside. At Clever, we are lucky to have great people who work hard to make sure that we are a better company every day.
What do you think your main challenges are in the near future?
Being among large world leading companies such as Google, Shopify, Facebook … implies a high degree of commitment to excellence and innovation. The main challenges we face are the improvement of processes, the incorporation of the latest technologies to continue automating and the consolidation of the position in the market.
How many customers do you have?
Recently, we have reached the 45k installations of our app around the world.
What does it mean to be a Google Premier Partner?
Google is one of the largest companies in the world, with double-digit growth year after year. Being a Google Premier Partner implies transparency, seriousness, and a lot of effort to be at the expected level, as well as being a Microsoft Elite Partner, a goal we have also recently achieved.
What are the main challenges when leading a technological development company / saas / machine learning…?
Talent management: lead brilliant people, which implies respect, humility and discipline.
What is Clever’s current year forecast? What are you putting more emphasis on?
This is a year full of challenges, and changes, in which we know we will not end as we started, and in which all our efforts are focused on consolidating growth.
What is it like to organize a team with five different headquarters?
Technologies and tools are a great help when it comes to communication, but above all, you need to have a lot of confidence in your team and respect their work, because you have to let them solve problems creatively. Someone told me once, that there is no “labor”, but “brain work”.
